Here's the official review for the above-mentioned.
So the iPhone 3G S has made this smartphone a viable contender among rival OSes Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile, etc, and not forgetting Palm and Blackberry. The one thing that struck me about the new iPhone 3G S and the 3.0 software update is how amazingly gaga the fans get over the changes. But think about it - these same additions are just the common sense things that Apple left out in previous iterations of their OS and phones.
- Cut, copy and paste
- 3 MP camera + autofocus
- Search utility (Spotlight)
- Push notifications (to compensate for the lack of multi-tasking)
- Improvement to an abysmal battery-life (only in some instances)
I just don't get it..
To be fair, the other revisions do make the iPhone a strong competitor. The faster processor (hit), better graphics (hit), voice controls (miss), compass (hit), video & editing (hit), and my personal favourite - the oleophobic coating to make smudge-screen cleaning easier. To me, the iPhone now competes on the same level as the other smartphone offerings.
I've long sung about the marketing genius that is Apple, and I continue to do so with the 3G S. No one else can sell a substandard smartphone to a gargantuan user base and have them all loyally hungering for more. The current iPhone user base and green-eyed monsters who have been sitting on the fence, will lead to another windfall for Steve Jobs and Apple.
