If you're in the market for an ebook reader, and thought the Amazon Kindle (and its iterations) were exorbitant (trust us, it is), consider the new Kobo eReader. At a US$150 pricepoint, it is much cheaper than the US$500 Kindle. Personally I find it isn't necessary for an eReader to have wifi or 3G, since you won't be downloading on the go much. The Kobo has the right idea - you just connect the device to your PC or net-enabled mobile phone via bluetooth, and do your download then - usually at home.
