Having been lucky enough to catch a preview of Scott Pilgrim vs the World during Comic Con, author Scott Yacyshyn from Movie Cultists has thrown down the gauntlet to declare it to be Movie of the Year. I'm a little skeptical of course, since it seems you probably need to be a comic/game fan or be nerd-cool in order to appreciate the flick:
Zelda, Mario, Tekken, even Dance Dance Revolution… all make an appearance with sound effects, icons, and ridiculously cool graphics that show up right there, on the screen. The choreography is amazingly cool, with moves taken right out of Street Fighter and anime (but don’t worry, anime haters, it’s tempered). When Scott Pilgrim lands his first punch of the movie, knocking Matthew Patel right into the air for a 64-hit combo (no lie), the theater erupted in cheers.
